The NI Audit Office audit more than 100 public organisations which spend over £25 billion of public money every year. They also publish reports on a range of topics including health, justice and education.

In their work they use data from financial management systems as well as open data. But they are lacking the technology to use this data to its full potential. They have an exciting opportunity to develop the use of data analytics, artificial intelligence and automation, to provide greater audit coverage and more insight. This will add value to public sector organisations and generate efficiencies.

Technology firms and start-ups can apply for funding to develop a solution

The GovTech Catalyst supports public sector organisations to work with tech firms to develop innovative solutions to complex problems. The NI Audit Office won funding from the Govtech Catalyst to explore the development of a data-enabled audit. Suppliers have the opportunity to apply for up to £50,000 (including VAT) in Phase 1 to research and develop ideas and proposals, plus the opportunity to bid for additional funding up to £500,000 in Phase 2.
