A Report by Ipsos Mori and commissioned by DCMS has revealed that awareness of the new GDPR regulations is still very low. Asking businesses and charities about the regulation the survey revealed that only 38% of businesses are aware of the new regulation and only a quarter of both sectors have taken any action regards GDPR which becomes law on 25 May 2018.
The report on Cyber Security and Data Protection shows that Businesses in the finance and insurance sectors have the highest awareness of the changes while the construction industry has the lowest awareness, with only one in four aware of the incoming regulation. Awareness is higher among businesses that report their senior managers consider cyber security is a fairly high or a very high priority.
The GDPR brings in new requirements around transparency with severe fines for offenders who fail to comply either in holding data or more severely if the data is lost through a cyber breach.
