Health systems worldwide are confronted with challenges in delivering consistently high quality, safe care; and producing a scientific evidence base about how to improve care is remarkably difficult.

Problems in conceptualisation, study design, measurement, specification and description, execution and implementation are all rife.

Using examples and analogies, this lecture identifies how contributions from multiple disciplines may move the field forward. Health systems should be modernised and digitised using technology from across different sectors.

Discussants will include: Professor Mary Dixon-Woods, Health Foundation Professor of Healthcare Improvement Studies and Director of THIS Institute, University of Cambridge
